He is currently the CEO and Co-Founder of Decode Health. Decode is his second startup focused on using machine learning to predict and understand disease outcomes. Dr. Spurlock's work has led to the development of AI tools, products, and services that enable care teams to detect, monitor, and treat disease. These technologies have included patented blood-based molecular approaches and population-level studies that can track thousands of patient journeys in real-time. Today, Decode Health delivers a precision medicine analytics platform advancing biomarker discovery and population health analytics alongside leading pharma, diagnostics, and technology companies to better detect, monitor, and treat chronic and acute conditions. Dr. Spurlock's genomics and data science work has received continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH/NIAID). These efforts have been featured in peer-reviewed journals, trade journals, and healthcare media outlets. He is a recognized industry innovator, appearing on the Nashville Business Journal's '40 under 40' list and Nashville Post's In Charge Healthcare list. He was named Entrepreneur of the Year in the Nashville Business Journal's 2021 Healthcare Innovation Awards. Decode Health has received numerous awards under his leadership, including the Nashville Entrepreneur Center's NEXT Award for healthcare innovation and recognition from Inc. Magazine as a top 100 company in the Southeast United States in 2024. Complementing his work at Decode Health, Dr. Spurlock is a founding member of the healthcare advisory board for DataRobot, a leading Boston-based AI company. Dr. Spurlock is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The University of the South and earned his PhD in microbiology and immunology from Vanderbilt University. He is an adjunct professor of medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and an adjunct professor of healthcare administration at NYU. Outside of work, Dr. Spurlock serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for The Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, actively supports The Aspen Institute, and is a member of the Order of St. John.
